RENPHO Study Unveils the Empowering Influence of Music in Workout Playlists
Stay tuned to our latest news
When it comes to creating an effective workout playlist, the power of empowering music cannot be overstated. Our recent study revealed fascinating insights into the preferences of fitness enthusiasts, which emphasized the significance of selecting music that empowers individuals during their workout routines, showcasing its ability to boost motivation and determination.
The study saw a staggering 73% of respondents claim that music that empowered them was the most important factor when choosing songs for their exercise playlist. It shows the importance of selecting songs with motivating lyrics and powerful melodies that can boost confidence and determination during workouts.
The Influence of Empowering Music
According to a research by Andrews University’s Geetha Choppala, music can help people work harder than usual during exercise and forget about the aches and body pains that come with it. Listening to empowering music during workouts creates a powerful psychological and emotional connection with the combination of motivating lyrics and uplifting melodies. Empowering songs can ignite a fire within, fueling determination, and providing the mental strength needed to overcome challenges and obstacles during workouts.
Our study found that beats per minute (BPM) is a crucial factor in selecting music for exercise. The top 15 songs on exercise playlists had an average BPM of 144.8, which falls within the range of moderately paced music. This tempo is ideal for workouts that require a steady rhythm and a balanced combination of cardiovascular and strength training.
Moderately paced music with a BPM close to 144.8 is especially suited to activities such as indoor cycling, aerobics, and circuit training. These workouts often involve repetitive movements and intervals of high and low intensity. The rhythmic nature of the songs at this BPM can help individuals maintain a consistent pace, synchronize their movements, and stay motivated throughout the session.
Pair great, uplifting music with a workout session on the RENPHO AI Smart Bike, a stationary bike that allows you to stream live and on-demand classes from the comfort of your own home. The bike is equipped with adjustable seat and handlebars, which can be customized to fit your body type.
Listening to music while exercising can help you find your rhythm or help you set your pace. An academic study in 2020 found that music can improve athletic performance in two ways: it can either delay fatigue or increase work capacity. The effects of music lead to “higher-than-expected levels of endurance, power, productivity, or strength.”
Surprisingly, the RENPHO study also revealed that only 11% of participants reported that beats per minute (BPM) played a primary role in their song selection process. The emotional impact and the lyrics of the song often hold greater significance in creating a motivational and empowering workout experience.
Music is also perfect with the RENPHO Smart Jump Rope 1, which keeps track of your skip time, total skip number, and calories burned to monitor your fitness progress. It also features Bluetooth pairing and an adjustable TPU and steel wire rope, which is durable and non-tangling.
Jonathan Baggia, Marketing Manager at RENPHO, emphasized the importance of mindful music selection in fitness routines. “As exercise and wellbeing experts, RENPHO actively encourages all individuals to be mindful of the music they incorporate into their fitness routines. By selecting songs that not only resonate with them emotionally but also match the appropriate BPM for their chosen activity, fitness enthusiasts can unlock the full potential of their workouts and achieve their fitness goals with greater satisfaction,” he commented.
